Knitwear Design

While studying for a BA Fashion /Textiles at Cheltenham, a project from a visiting tutor inspired a love of knit design which led to a final collection based on machine and handknits. I had officially now changed from a wovens designer to a knitwear designer, fascinated by the idea of producing a fabric to work with rather than starting with an existing one.

Following teacher training in Cardiff I moved to London and worked as a knitwear designer for several companies producing  machine knits in the Far East and UK factories.

Started freelancing, and developed an interest in handknits, which I felt had endless possibilities after working within the constraints of machine knits. Designed handknits for commercial companies supplying the high street stores.
Worked for swatch companies selling design ideas to US companies.

Taught at London College of Fashion on the HND Knitwear Course, some students going on to St Martins.

Moved to Hastings. Now designing for several knitting magazines, and yarn companies providing pattern back up.
